From The Community: NFL star’s big day out, the inspiration for Pirates of the Caribbean and a tidal wave soaking for charity

Rounding up all the biggest news from fans and influencers, here is your latest edition of From the Community from Planet Attractions

Highlighting some incredible content, welcome to From The Community - a roundup of everything fans and influencers from within the attractions community have been up to all over the world.

In this week’s edition, the real-life fort that inspired Disney World's Pirates of the Caribbean, the NFL star who’s a massive fan of rollercoasters and the theme park enthusiasts who spent a day riding Thorpe Park’s Tidal Wave for charity.

Starting this week at Midway to Main Street, which has looked at the real fort that inspired Disney World’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Called Castillo de San Felipe del Morro, the fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico was built between the 16th and 18th centuries and in 1983 was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Tommy Simons, better known as TommyInnit, is a British YouTuber better known for his Minecraft-related videos and livestreams. This week however, he visited an empty waterpark - Water World in Stoke, UK - exploring the attraction alongside fellow YouTubers Wilbur Soot, Fundy, Philza, Tubbo & Nihachu.

Meanwhile at Thorpe Park, TheJackSilkstone and Keiran Adams have offered a behind-the-scenes look at creating promotional content for Black Mirror Labyrinth - the park’s brand new immersive attraction based on the series by the same name.

In the US, Parkineer visited SeaWorld for its Taste of the Seven Seas event, eating lots of food as they explored the park.

Coaster Studios visited Cedar Point this week, bringing a special guest along - Anthony Schwartz, wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns football team.

A third round draft pick for the Browns, and one of the fastest runners in the NFL, Schwartz, it turns out, is also a big rollercoaster fan. The Coaster Studios team explores the park while getting to enjoy the company of the stars of the NFL, learning about some of his top attractions.

For those looking to relax, AllEars has compiled a list of locations for people to take a quiet break when exploring Disney World.

While the newly-opened VelociCoaster is being hailed as one of the greatest rollercoasters ever created, its predecessor was not held in such high regard. The Triceratops Encounter (later known as Triceratops Discovery Trail) was a short-lived attraction allowing guests to get up close and personal with realistic animatronic dinosaurs. Expedition Theme Park looks back at the attraction’s lifespan and explains how we made it to today’s VelociCoaster.

From Cupcakes & Coasters, Jordan Middleton has made a series of predictions about theme parks in a post-COVID era.

Among her predictions are digital innovations, the rise of pre-booked tickets, increased pricing and enhanced crowd control measures.

Back at Thorpe Park and DigitalDan took on a unique challenge - spending an entire day riding the park’s Tidal Wave attraction. Alongside girlfriend Ellie, Dan rides the splash ride for an entire day, all in the name of charity.

In the Netherlands, Pieter & Pris take a trip to Efteling, going on the dark rides for the first time since the pandemic, and visiting the Bäckerei Krümel and try a new snack on Max & Moritz square.

From Pleasure Beach Experience, get a unique view of Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s The Big One, with a "between the rails" mounted on-ride POV of the ride experience.

From Flight of the Skylion to Croc Drop, the UK has welcomed a host of new and varied attractions up and down the British Isles this year. Coasters on the Coast has compiled a list of the seven new rides you have to experience in the UK this year.

Our final and possibly most bizarre story comes from Defunctland, which has looked at the ‘handwhich’ - Disney’s failed ‘sandwich of the future’.

In the video, host Kevin explores the history of the delicacy and makes an attempt to create his very own version of the infamous one-handed snack.
