Six Flags Great America is offering newly-vaccinated residents of Illinois free theme park tickets in a bid to boost COVID-19 vaccination numbers in the state.

Worth more than US$4m (€3.3m, £2.8m), Six Flags is offering 50,000 one-day tickets to the state in support of vaccination education programmes in areas heavily impacted by the pandemic.

According to the operator, tickets will be awarded through local health department initiatives and community organisation vaccine education campaigns.

In addition to its offer of free tickets, Six Flags is also hosting mobile vaccination teams at Great America in the first weekend of June to further support the state’s vaccination efforts.

“Six Flags is honoured to partner with state leaders to encourage Illinois residents to get vaccinated, especially in underserved communities,” said Six Flags’ president and CEO, Mike Spanos. “We appreciate governor Pritzker’s leadership on this initiative and we look forward to moving to Phase 5 very soon.”
